Originally posted by Bryn View PostI took up this issue of being able to listen to Lo-Fi streams of her recent Bandcamp release with Tania Chen. She checked and found that, in her case, Bandcamp allowed up to 3 complete streamings in advance of purchase. In Richard's case, the drop in audio quality is likely to be rather greater than usual, in that the lossless downloads offer 48kHz sampling and 24-bit quantization, whereas the 'free' sample stream is, at best, 128kbps lossy data compressed, i.e at most, a twelfth of the data rate of even the lossless compressed FLAC. ALAC etc. download options (or an eighteenth of the WAV option). So, pay up and get a proper earful.
I only realised yesterday that I'd 'only' downloaded the MP3s of RB's (& co) last few albums on Bandcamp, so today I went and downloaded the FLAC versions.

I'm happy for people to stream the lossy version to see if they like the music enough to part with their zlotys and I'm not expecting to make a mint out of this release, but it's maybe worth mentioning that the instrumentalists donated some considerable time and effort to their contributions, in two cases going into a studio and engaging an engineer, not to mention the seven weeks that the electronic realisations took. Of course one reason why all that was possible was the fact that people's schedules have tended over the past year to be less full than usual, let's say. (All profits will be equally shared among the contributors, needless to say.)
