I have often wondered ref The Chromatic Scale/Range of Fela Kutis keyboard sound (or what ever it is)....whats going on. I'm not a musician, so I 'm sure the explaination could be quite simple. The sound of the keyboards seems to be quite differentto normal keyboards....I like it but it is odd IMO....

....what I am meaning is that the keyboard {electric piano/organ in piano mode) always sound slighty flat, or in some cases thin with a small wobble....almost any Fela Kuti keyboard solo is so....they surely must want it that way....been listening to FK since 900hr this morn...

By the way, have you seen this young Chilean outfit playing alongside Fela's son, Seun. Such great energy. His music is so influential, and you can see why, I think.

Back in the 1970s records made their way from West Africa to the port of Barranquilla in Colombia and influenced the local music scene. Here's a version of Fela's 'Shakara' that Wganda Kenya took and transcribed - it became 'Shakalaode' and was given the Colombian Afrobeat treatment, and issued as part of an excellent Analog Africa compilation, 'Diablos Del Ritmo'.
