    Bach Walks

I missed these first time round, so was intrigued at the thought of this 'omnibus' [ha ha] edition. But slow radio or what? I'm afraid I only managed half an hour of it, and am left wondering if anyone found it informative or enjoyable in any way?

Horatio Clare sets out to retrace JS Bach's famous 250-mile walk from Arnstadt to Lubeck.

A few years ago there was a delightful radio programme in which a British woman presenter retraced the steps Erik Satie would take daily between his apartment in Arceuil and the night club where he worked. I would imagine 300 years to have altered the terrain covered by JSB on foot would have changed beyond recognition.

By the way, looking at his image on that link, I hadnt' realised he had joined the Conservative Womens Association!

That "British woman presenter" was none other than Doc. Walker of Sunday Mornings. Were British Airways to be operating currently, you could pre-book listening to is as in in-flight option. However, on the subject of Satie walks:

I enjoyed this thoroughly while waiting in a queue at the rubbish tip. No idea where he was in relation to Bach’s journey most of the time but I enjoyed the sounds and descriptions of flora and fauna.

they were good in small instalments - the afternoon concert slot needs to be retained as for me R3 is only switched on at 12noon

I heard most of the programme but more often than not as background which was perhaps how it was intended to be heard. Altogether enjoyable.

It sounds to me as though its bite was not as good as its Bach.

Radio at its best. Hugely enjoyable. One really got a sense of place and journey and music and a strange, almost mystical connection to Bach.
