The fanfare which forms the first six bars of Salzedo's Divertimento for three trumpets and three trombones, opus 49 (1959), was used as the theme tune for the Open University's educational programmes on BBC television and radio from the 1970s to the 1990s
I didn't know that until just nowPacta sunt servanda !!!

The World at War. Music by Carl Davis, narrated by Olivier. The opening titles with the images of the little girl and boy looking into the camera, I found very affecting - then and now...
and by way of contrast:
I wish I was a space man.The fastest guy alive.I'd fly you round the universe,In Fireball XL-5.Way out in space together,Compass of the sky,My heart would be...
Venus made an impression on the 7 year old me, but I didn't know then what it was...

I would say it is equalled only by the closing shots in the last episode of 'Blackadder Goes Forth, which I, for one, will never forget.
The only reference to the use of Bruckner's music in 'The World At War' that I can find is an extract from the 5th symphony in Episode 2. His music has also featured in, among others series, 'A Very English Scandal', 'Mad Men', 'Dr Who', and 'Mr Bean'.Last edited by LMcD; 13-05-20, 07:05.

Originally posted by Lordgeous View PostCarl Davis, yes it was and still is a brilliant theme for a memorable series. I meant to mention it before.
How could I have forgotten Hamish MacCunn's 'Land Of The Mountain and the Flood', the theme tune to 'Sutherland's Law'?Last edited by LMcD; 13-05-20, 12:35.
