I feel a bit guilty, not because I like this, which I do, but because I enjoy watching it too. So funny - she is great!

I think Mabel should take a few style-lessons from Sheila and Sheena....

      (see #9...)

As Prince says, "I never seen a pretty girl look so tough!" Matadorial Sheena does but Mabel...too flouncy for me....the see-through too explicit... get another stylist, M! (And look at Sheila E juggling the drumsticks with not even a hint of a smile - definitely not the girl-next-door...)...

The 80s video is, well, very 80s, but the song is a gem:

Intake your point. However Mabel's smiles were the most endearing part: obviously enjoying herself, her success, and in particular performing in front of her mum (who as she said, had received the same prize exactly 30 years previously). Must everything be done seriously?

These are all a bit "tame" IMV

I was thinking that one of the CE folks would "come out" as a fan of Skrewdriver or Gorgoroth

If the essence is really on "guilty" ........ but maybe I secretly collect recordings of English oratorios ?

It never got much better than this....

(Long intro, stick with it...but its all about hair again of course...)
I always thought that Sheena had a voice for much better things than that, try this:

What’s guilt got to do with it, and jc why would anyone feel guilty for liking a beautiful voice like Karen Carpenter, good cuts through any genre preference!

I think that pop music likes/dislikes is an age thing:

April 1965 - I can count on the fingers on one hand the ones I dislike in the Top 50

April 1985 - I can count on the fingers of one hand the ones I like in the Top 50

                  If I looked at 2005 I suspect I wouldn’t need the hand!

Well maybe a couple of fingers!

God no, but the point with Prince and his troupe is.... they were always supercool and simultaneously sending themselves up....

Most especially the Purple Pompadour himself...

I always felt a bit guilty about enjoying this band's music after they espoused some politics that I didn't agree with. I know, I know.....
But that was then and this is now, and in any case, this was a fine record, as were quite a few of their others....again, haircuts best left unmentioned...

                      Big mates of MrGG IIRC......

Actually, since we're on politics, I guess Wagner, Morrissey and perhaps Stravinsky could be considered 'guilty pleasures'.

Much the same being true of Ray Charles, I think. The Raelets get the better of him; he makes himself into a cartoon character, and takes it acknowledgingly on the chin.

                            I think it is possible.

Also, I have found my tastes have expanded when I've dismissed or got over my own initial doubts about certain types of music. Some music I've thought - initially - was too dissonant, some - too cheesy or schmaltzy, some too crude and repetitive etc. I think the idea is that these initial doubts also contain some fascination so that one returns to the music under more propitious circumstances so that it clicks.
I used to tend to find something unpleasant, and only later discover why. Politics and musical taste marry up pretty well, given time. I never knew Vaughan Williams and Holst were socialists - it was wonderful to discover that taste and what laid behind it married up. OK, socialists of the William Morris type. But that's more in tune with our time than people realised it was with theirs.

I wonder if our old friend Mr P had a liking for this jolly ditty ?
I don't feel "guilty" about it though
