      Have lived with the Finzi song cycles for many years. Let Us Garlands Bring is absolutely wonderful. The rest, I find quite ordinary.

      Britten always hits the spot, though.

          Trevor Hold has a fair bit to say about the setting of Hardy's Proud Songsters by Britten in Winter Words and that by Finzi in Earth and air and rain.
          I'll try to find some of his pertinent comments and post them here later.
          I must admit to not getting along with Britten's songs that have only piano accompaniment, so maybe they have to be my next project, if I feel I've had a surfeit of Finzi.
