Hamish Milne has died aged 80

Hamish Milne, the fine British Pianist, attended Bishop Wordsworth's School in the 1950s when the school possessed a highly talented staff, many of whom started teaching after serving in World War II. Thereafter, Hamish studied at the R.A.M. in London. He developed a virtuoso technique and was unafraid to explore fresh repertoire. I loved his recordings of Medtner.

Very sad news. I didn't realise he was of such an advanced age.

RIP and thank you for the music.

Yes, I was surprised that he was born as long ago as 1939.

Quite a few people have expressed surprise that Hamish was 80. He was especially respected and admired for his dedicated promotion of the music of Medtner and can justly be credited for having contributed significantly to the rehabilitation of that splendid composer's work.

          RIP.

I was lucky enough to hear him playing Medtner and other music at a local church 12 years ago. His enthusiasm for Medtner's music was palpable.
