It has just been announced on France Musique, that Peter Serkin, son of Rudolf Serkin, and grandson of Adolf Busch, passed away today, aged 72.

Sad news. And by coincidence I have just this minute finished listening to his performance of Schoenberg's piano concerto with The LSO and Boulez on Erato.

I saw him at Marlboro many years ago, accompanied by swarms of mosquitos. The Tashi Quartet for the End of Time was a revelation for me; I didn’t know that music could sound like that

            Far too young.

A very fine and versatile pianist. One of the few to take a lead in recording using historical instruments. A great loss the the world of music.

Bewilderingly, confused with Rudolf by Andrew McGregor on Record Review on 8 Feb, as mentioned by me (inappositely) on the Mozart 39 BaL page.
