I recently searched online for a performance of Fauré's Requiem and ended up watching a performance conducted by Martin Neary and featuring John Gielgud, recorded in Winchester Cathedral by Southern Television in 1980. It's part of the Archive of Recorded Church Music.

He read the text of each section before it was performed.
Other performers: Thomas Allen and Dominic Harvey/Winchester Cathedral Choir/English Chamber Orchestra.
