That’s very sad news. Jessye in her prime was ... well, words fail me. Nothing’s ever really matched the impact of being a few yards from her singing Ariadne.

Very sad news, she was a genuine star. Like Caliban, I saw her in Ariadne at Covent Garden, a performance never subsequently matched. Also a Prom conducted by Boulez including Berg's Seven Early Songs.
Heaven will now sound sweeter.

Sad indeed. A life spent mostly in the sticks meant I only saw her once - Verdi Requiem at the Proms in 1972, with Colin Davis - but a few recordings here - Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Dido, double album of Brahms Lieder with Barenboim....and of course that ineffable Four Last Songs with Kurt Masur, which we shall listen to later.

This is very sad news. My thoughts went immediately to her recording of "Im Abendrot" but I don't think I could handle more than just listening to it inwardly. Hers was in many ways the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.

I was taken aback to read the news a moment ago. A great voice and person. The Four Last Songs and the Brahms songs with Barenboim on piano stand out for me among many favourites.
