Have a walk round the city of London sometime to see the same dynamic applying.
I accept that is probably the case but hardly provides a solution to the need to provide for the not so rich over 60s who are paying for the BBC provision, which should be for all ages and the over 60s probably provide a fairly large proportion of their listenership!

As for your last sentence I have absolutely no desire to walk round any part of London at any time!

Visually as well as culturally, London is a very stimulating place to walk around; I never tire of it. What have you got in Cornwall to compare? Life boats, fishermen, granite moors, second homes, tourists and Land's End?

Only joking, of course; Cornwall is a beautiful and relatively unspoilt part of the world, where you can engage your inner grain of sand; and you can just about get Radio 3 on fm: I've been there.

I have an impression that most of your posts, apart from those about the proms, are about commercial recordings on which you clearly devote considerable amount of time listening ‘critically’ and checking the reference. The Proms may be good but they can’t prop up Radio 3 as a radio station which is what this thread is about.
*Don’t bother to list the programmes you do or have listened. That isn’t the point.

What differentiates Radio 3 from other music services like streaming etc. is that the music is presented. It is the quality of how the music is presented on Radio 3 (not just the presenters but the programming too) is what many of us here are questioning.

Do you mean you have not seen them (the ideas) on the forum?

By the way, would anyone care to try curating the Proms for culturally engaged” 35 to 54-year-olds who are creative, extrovert with passionate minds?
Main reason I don't mention Radio 3 Concerts much (despite still listening to them sometimes) is the lack of interest in them here. Don't you recall just a few years ago? I used to contribute weekly reviews of evening concerts and a whole bunch of us would discuss them and compare critical notes after. (Ed, Petrushka , dear Hornspieler, we really were devoted to the cause!)...
Gradually we drifted away, as the programs became less interesting partly as a result of reduced BBC funding. So the writing became redundant.
(BTW, I never did lunchtime/PM concerts much - just too early in the day for me and my poor head etc. Will sometimes seek out off Sounds etc though.)

Then IRL got in the way - I became busier & busier as a carer & it became near impossible to listen live or even catch up later - concerts are quite long!
I crammed in a Haydn Symphony etc as time allowed. Made a special effort for the Proms. (My poor cat has come in growling with a bad leg now, Vet Monday, and that may compromise my attention over the next few days...!)

So I lost the R3 weekly habit. And now my attention to concerts is more irregular and selective off BBC Sounds. But I still get RT and check out the Evening Concerts each week....(the week leading up to Prom 1 was very good - if only R3 could afford more like that, with the best European Orchestras...)

But with regard to the present discussion, I wouldn't complain to the station if they don't include things I like, or do things the way I dislike - I simple take what I want from it, just as I do with Qobuz, Berlin DCH etc etc... there's so much choice now, it would be difficult to expect R3 to give you what you want so much of the time. But I guess it always was.

Still I do think this Proms Season is pretty good, and it is inspiring me to follow live Barbican and RFH relays more closely later...
And it has been nicely presented thus far, with good interval features. I'll look in on La Derham's TV magazine thing tonight (uh-oh...).
Point taken on presentation especially TV (
), of course, but live I guess I tend to wait for the music to start, and the voices etc don't bother me that much.
It is all pretty subjective, as ever.

I didn't say anything about lack of interest in the Proms concerts, simply that I don't listen to that many; I wasn't being negative about the Proms. I do listen to a lot of the daytime scheduling throughout the year(including the odd Proms repeat!) and also I hope that overall any comments I post on the forum about the R3 output have a reasonable balance of positive to negative overall - especially since many of the negative comments relate to one or two perennial problem areas, for which I have also often suggested what I think R3 could do to improve those areas. Something which I am trying to do more often is contacting R3 directly about its output - I don't do social media and have not always found it straightforward to direct feedback in the past.

Nor would most of us, since that is not what the thread is about.

Definitely get R3 on FM, loud and clear - I recorded Schumann 4 onto Minidisc from it yesterday. 'Did you walk the cliffs of Zennor On a warm September day, See the golden sands at Sennen, when the tide has rolled away... and Cape Cornwall is far more pleasant than Land's End.
