    Music magazines

The latest edition of BBC Music has just come through the letter box. What instantly struck me is the startling lack of advertising in the magazine. Rather a strange thing to complain about you might say and of course, I don't miss the adverts as such. But I do realise that it must be a vital component of making the magazine viable and if they are no longer able to sell that space I wonder how much longer it can keep going.

It really is quite noticeable, the whole layout of the magazine has changed because of it. Anyone know how Gramophone is faring in this regard ?

The editorial/advertising percentages in Gramophone have been pretty stable for some years, and as should be well known by now, the current magazine is in very good health under Martin Cullingford's editorship, with many insightful and innovative articles, features and reviews each month.... and inter alia a very welcome emphasis on New Music, new performers and unfamiliar repertoire....

No radical changes in layout recently.

I'll try to get a look at the BBCMM next time I'm in the Newsagents....

It's the latest August issue where this is most noticeable ( I know newsagents sometimes are a bit slow in rotating stock )
