    Anthony Hedges

He was featured on this week's Last Word:

He's a composer I knew of rather than about, if you know what I mean. I thought of him as a writer of 'light classical' and hadn't realised his oeuvres included more profound works.

Amongst other things, he wrote some fine piano pieces which were in vogue with the Associated Board back in the '70s and '80s.

Anthony Hedges grew up in Bicester. It was not an accident that he did his teaching practice at the Royal Latin School in
Buckingham, since that school's Woodwork and Metalwork teacher, Les Smith, lived next door to the Hedges. Hedges write a Choral piece for RLS that became a Musical Times supplement.

Les, a neighbour to Mr and Mrs Hedges suggested that RLS would be a good, caring school where their son would enjoy a pleasant term of teaching practice.
