I don’t think there are many but there’s a very good Delius CD on that underrated Tring RPO label - I remember snapping many of those up at a fiver apiece as they appeared.

So the hypothetical box ‘James Loughran: the Enigma years’ would bring us the Beethoven symphonies, the Elgar’s and Schubert 9? The Brahms PCs with John Lill?

I’ve been known to get fed up and change cd during some long Symphonies but never with Schubert 9

Yes, not much to ask is it? ...and maybe anything else they have in the vaults!

Those (apart from the Beethoven cycle) are his CfP recordings, though, not "the Enigma/ASV years" that Alison mentioned.

A Loughran Icon set would be a worthy tribute to a great conductor, but I wouldn't be buying it. I've already got most of them - including the Beethoven Symphony cycle on LP.

Ah right,I was thinking a fantasy bumper cd box of all Loughran’s Halle records which I’d certainly be in the market for.
I offloaded all my vinyl years ago

So would I. I saw Loughran many times with the Halle in Manchester and elsewhere. A much under-rated conductor.

His Brahms 1st on CfP (1974) was an early LP purchase for me.

I have now come across a BBC Legends recording with Boult of Schubert 9 from a 1969 Prom with the BBCSO - it is marvellous as is his Unfinished also on a BBC Legends release . It was about £5 recently on Amazon marketplace . I think it tops his studio account .
