I always have at least 2 grapefruit - which may or may not be French - in the fridge. Or were you referring to Mr Bond's fictional detective?

Signed with pleasure - I'm sure the proposal is being made with little or no mal-intent, but nonetheless it's preposterous to ignore the essential linkage between BB and PP, both on the musical and the personal level.

Signed. I find it astonishing this is being considered.

Those of us who signed the petition will be very pleased with the news that the suggested name-dropping (!) has been rejected, and that Pears continues to be honoured as Britten would have wished.

                Dear Friends

With only a fortnight to go before the opening of this year's Aldeburgh Festival and having just opened our Snape Proms general booking with record sales in the first few days, it is a busy and exciting time at Snape Maltings.

We are also continuing our discussions with the Britten-Pears Foundation about our plan to merge our two charities by next April. The idea of the merger has been overwhelmingly positively received and we will keep you informed as our ideas and plans develop. It is a very exciting time for us as sister charities.

As you may have heard, there has been considerable discussion about the proposed name for our newly-merged organisation. There is a lot to think about and organise, as well as legal issues to be addressed before we finally merge and both our boards have been considering carefully the feedback we have received about the name.

Having listened carefully to those views, it has been decided that we will give further consideration to the name of the new charity. It has been agreed that we will retain the names of both Britten and Pears.

I look forward to sharing more news with you in due course.

Please do not hesitate to ask me or any of my colleagues if there is other information which you would find helpful.

I look forward to seeing you at the Festival and the Snape Proms.

With thanks, as ever, for your interest and support,

                Roger Wright
                Chief Executive, Snape Maltings
Now that I see who was amongst those considering the move, it becomes less astonishing that it was ever considered in the first place. (But more astonishing still that he actually listened to the protests against his suggestion and back-tracked. He must be getting mellower in his old age.)

Since the Foundation is still a separate charity, I imagine they would have had an opinion about a change which seems, on the surface, to have nothing to commend it and much to disqualify it.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Great result - individual voices can make a difference, if only there be enough....!

                          Great news
I think the Gong for this needs to go to Nick Daniel
