          The reasons stated for the rebranding are:

          - That 'a new organisation needs a new name';
          Very weak. It was only a couple of years ago that Aldeburgh Music, CEO Mr RW Wright, bought up Snape Maltings to form a single 'new organisation' called - Snape Maltings, CEO Mr RW Wright. No new name needed.

          Now Snape Maltings, CEO Mr RW Wright, is merging with the Britten-Pears Foundation to form a 'new organisation', CEO to be Mr RW Wright, but they can't retain one of the old names because they must have a new one.

          Who are they marketing it to that doesn't know who Britten and Pears were? Something very odd here.
          It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

            Maybe there is a homophobe lurking in the mix, somewhere....

              Who knows? Though I feel it's the importance of the joint contribution they made to Aldeburgh and their artistic contribution, rather than the nature of the relationship that makes it wrong to airbrush one of them out.

                TO be fair Aldeburgh music changed it's name to Snape Maltings (which some in the town weren't happy about either, though probably not the same folks who objected to the Scallop)

                This new change seems daft to me and given the folks who have been talking about this is unlikely to go ahead as imagined.

                  But the new organisation didn't have a completely new name. Aldeburgh Music + Snape Maltings = Snape Maltings. So why wouldn't Snape Maltings + Britten-Pears Foundation = Britten-Pears Foundation?

                    Some folks were unhappy at the loss of Aldeburgh from the name
                    but this is a much bigger change IMV as it appears to erase Pears

                        Stravinsky is supposed to have remarked sourly that Benjamin Britten would be remembered for having been one of the world’s finest piano accompanists!

                          Yoko Ono will be remembered as an artist who was part of the Fluxus movement and as the ex-wife of the great Toshi Ichiyanagi rather than the second wife of a music hall singer ?

                            More likely an egregiously stupid marketing person.
