    Shostakovich 11 - Barbican

The R3 concert last night included Shostakovich’s 2nd piano concerto and his 11th Symphony. I’m guessing the broadcast could have been challenging for home stereo systems.

Semyon Bychkov and the BBC SO, Barbican. Very powerful.

Dave: the TV sound-system on which I and Mrs LMP listened coped perfectly well. Exciting performance!
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I bet it sounded nothing like the sound in the hall, though! That was amazing.

Mostly the performance was pretty good, though some parts seemed to flag a little. A very curious work.
The section(s) where all (most) of the percussion players got going were very loud.
The lady in charge of the bell didn't have too much to do - until the very end - and I think it wasn't quite damped down fast enough.
Must be a nightmare trying to get that right.

The review here seems odd too - https://www.semyonbychkov.com/reviews/the-times-6/

        Many microphones were in view.

He has recorded Shost 11th , some time ago, with WDR Sinfonie Orch on Avie.
