His Variationen über ein Thema von G. Meyerbeer op. 45 was recorded by Knappertsbusch in 1925. It was issued on a Preiser release from 2000: "Hans Knappertsbusch Rarities" which is in stock on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hans-Knappe.../dp/B000026CJT, and also available for streaming on YouTube:

Sorry Sir... more haste, less speed...I was rushing to catch a bus.

I may have Frankenstein's home address, but I hear that the power there is off, so you may not get a response.

Does he share one with Mary Shelley?

He had to move out - their semi was not large enough to accommodate his power plant.

Has pabs followed this link up yet?

Looked as though there’s loads of info at the German library site, including music. Not sure if it can all be accessed on line, though.

He has - or rather he's still doing it! Thank you.

                        It's interesting what you learn

I wondered what 'von und zu' meant (other than 'of and at') and I discovered a priceless bit of elitism. 'Von' is well known, but in German aristocratic terms it denoted that your family originated in a certain place. 'Von und zu' went one better, denoting that your family originated in a certain place - and that it was still in that place! Clearly superior!

One anecdote - Freiherr von u. zu Franckenstein was visited by Hitler himself and Richard Strauss in the 1930s at the baron's Bavarian home. When they'd left, the baron went round the entire house, opening every window to let in fresh air - something that wasn't lost on the other guests.

No doubt this was a symbolic act; however, Hitler was well known for farting a lot.
