    Grigory Ginzberg

I was intrigued by the article in Gramophone about this Russian pianist who apparently never played in the West from the 1930s.

So I bought the APR predominantly Liszt disc . His playing is extraordinary not only the most remarkable technical brilliance but such amazingly beautiful clear voicing - you hear everything and through the crumbly Soviet mono recordings a crystal clear but infinitely coloured tone . Venezia e Napoli is so good I just had to play it all over again .

I don’t think I have been as blown away by hearing a pianist for the first time since I put on that EMI recital and heard Lipatti play the first bars of Bach’s Partita No 1 .
