Well done Boilk! I have that MIOT broadcast on a cassette, as it happens!

I thought so - "No Eggsplanation" was one track on that LP iirc.

Kevin Ayers was a great talent - far too talented and quirky to be a pop star, though he certainly had the looks. His 'cred' was greatly enhanced when he made off with Richard Branson's first wife, who must have figured that life with the impecunious K.A. would be a lot more fun than being lumbered with some fake hippy tycoon.

Shooting At The Moon is probably his most adventurous work, with the experimental track 'Pisser Dans un Violin' breaking barriers as to what you could do on record.

Mike Oldfield was also part of his band at that time, playing both bass and guitar.

It's often forgotten that Ayers was an early member of Soft Machine but I don't think he would have been happy in that band long-term.

Not a bad collection for a reasonable outlay:

Sounds an excellent plan. 3 pleasures in 1 Lucky you !!

( Mine would probably get XTC, Wire, and the accessible bits of Salisbury Plain, but the same principle....)

Here’s something for Prog fans to consider if they have any leftbover xmas vouchers.

This combination of the two volumes of The Road box, both originally released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Henry Cow in 2008, comes ten years later (sort of… ) as a 50th anniversary…

Wouldn’t mind having that at all, but £80 is a bit above my prog budget.

It's a great shame there appears to be no recorded record of The Orkestra - formed at the CPGB-oganised Festival of the Left (if I remember the title correctly - maybe should check!) at Ally Pally in the summer of '77, by the teaming up of Henry Cow and the Mike Westbrook Brass Band. The experiment was short-lived; three years on however it would lead to Lindsay Cooper and Georgie Born joining the Westbrooks' project The Cortège - one of the great jazz frescoes of all time, up there with Carla Bley's Escalator at the very least, I would claim.
