I preferred Lee Jackson. Never quite enjoyed Greg Lake’s voice

They had what was I believe near-chart inclusion in 1969 with"Seven Is a Jolly Good Time", based on it being in 7 to the bar, and devised eccentric album titles, such as "The Polite Force" and "The Civil Surface", belying the "no humour" ascription above - as would Robert Wyatt. I'd have to check personnel details but I think they sort of morphed into Hatfield and the North by way of one or two entrances and exits.
I still have a couple of Egg albums

Not a prog rock album but arguably a prog rock track...His Holy Modal Majesty by Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield.

To which could be added East West ( the track not the whole album ) by the Butterfield Blues Band

How long did it take to hatch those little gems?

I used to go to work listening to those albums.

Honest. Always found him a bit cheesy. As RB has mentioned down thread, Bryan Ferry going ahead with Fripps offer would have been something very special. Those first three Roxy albums are an excellent compensation, though. Maybe the fourth, too.

I’d say Ferry set ( or helped develop) a vocal style that others followed for, well a decade or two.

Didn’t he? What would his vocal style influences be? Early Bolan ?
