    Tamla is 60

Sixty years since Mr Gordy set up Tamla, one of the great pop labels of the 20th century. Look at the list: Stevie, Marvin, Gladys, Martha; Supremes, Temps, Tops, Jackos; Smokey, Holland, Dozier, Holland...and so many more, great arrangers, wonderful musicians, dodgy choreographers. Hard to pick favourites but I have a real soft spot for Marvin singing with Kim Weston on 'It Takes Two'...guaranteed to bring a smile to my face and recall singing it with my daughter on the way to the school bus.

I missed this post the first time round. Yes indeed. A new study confirms the 60s to 90s as the Golden Age of pop music. The findings are based on feedback from young people today who had a high recognition of the records which were released before they were alive but quickly forgot any songs released since 2000. Can't say that I am in the slightest bit surprised.
