Many interesting peculiarities, one being Matthews C at 158, but Matthews D (presumably) below 100; some not unexpected from listening experience - e.g. Arnold at 736 while Britten is at 3812.

The David Matthews total is 64. Other shockingly low numbers are Henze 63 and Alan Rawsthorne at just 26! Yet we have Piazzolla at 645 & Whitacre at 298, I think this just about sums up how low R3 has sunk.

Very fascinating results - thanks, Suffy (the last list one of the best ever in terms of Facebook responses).

Would be interesting to analyse the composers by century/style, especially how well Early Music and contemporary are represented. My hunch would be that both Gershwin and Bernstein are near the top based on their musicals rather than the 'classical' output, which in Gershwin's case is tiny anyway. Both well inside the top 100 - Gershwin, at 36! One senses an agenda here …

The Bernstein was certainly mainly due to the musicals, works such as Facsimile, Dyybuk, Kaddish Symphony, Concerto for Orchestra & Halil, were almost or completely ignored. With Gershwin there was a considerable overdose of Rhapsody in Blues (appearing almost twice as many times as usual), the musicals do represent a considerable proportion too. There has been a noticeable increase in chunks from musicals appearing on R3 recently.

I would claim in the case of Bernstein that musical quality is higher on its own terms in the musicals than in the "serious" works, however.

I as think I have said somewhere else the level of Rhapsody in Blueness is, surprisingly to me at least, down to plays on TTN ........

Not really true, the most noticeable increase occured during the day-time programming compared with 2017.
