Well that's one way I guess. Recently I heard one wag say the best way is to give an electric shock through the seat to those who clap.

Wouldn't work in the Proms Arena.

Self control is a better bet.

        Failing that - the stocks.

Well in that case I favour a Ducking Stool!

On the other hand I don't listen to or attend the Proms; so they can clap all they like.

But it is only the Albert Hall's architecture that is "Romanesque".

No. The stocks makes clapping impossible.

How about throwing cabbages at clappers. It seems to have magical powers with Steve Bruce getting the sack so soon after a cabbage was thrown.

You'll get pilloried for advocating them!

A stock response there. Show some self-control, and due respect to those following an older tradition than your own.

Maybe they’re pining for another one!

Last Saturday someone yelled and clapped vigorously after the first movement of Scherezade. Muti glanced up with a withering glare at the offender that silenced them completely and then made a gesture that seemed to say, If you came here to hear yourself perform, be my guest; if you came to hear us play, be respectful.” The offender was silent the rest of the evening

This tenancy for some to yell loudly at the conclusion of a work especially after a quiet ending can really spoil the atmosphere or break the spell. But I suppose we all have our individual ways of showing appreciation.
