I have a range of guilty pleasures but I did watch a BBC4 programme about Mrs Mills (or at least she was included, along with bringing out her piano, still located at Abbey Road) which took me back to the Saturday night TV of my childhood. I was tickled to hear she was a superintendant of typists for the Dept. of Pensions / Benefits and her recording manager put it to her after some time that given her sales and success, she could perhaps afford not to work 9 to 5 for the government...

(When I entered the Civil Service we still had a typing pool (with some shorthand typists) and a Superintendant who ruled the roost.)

Leontyne Price in 1971 was equally guilt-free in her pleasures when, in an interview with Alan Blyth in 1971, he asked her if she had a favourite amongst her recordings:

I've just done a quick check. Many of the earlier ones (1950 etc.) are uncredited. But you can add two more to Beethoven 7 & 9. These are Mozart 39 and Brahms St Antoni Variations.

I saw that, too...a really entertaining hour.

My weakness of Winifred Atwell and 'pub' pianos dates back to when I was just 4 or 5 - my Dad had one of her 45s and for some reason I played it until there were hardly any grooves left. The extract I gave never fails to bring a smile to my face.

I still love the 1960s pop that I grew up with, the Beatles of course, but more especially my guilty pleasure is listening to The Seekers! Judith Durham's fantastic voice still haunts me 50 years on and I, like most of the male population at the time, was hopelessly in love with her.
