Guilty (musical) pleasures

For pieces of music that tend to get sniffed at but which you love.

I love Strauss's Symphonia Domestica !

(I also rather like Bolero...)

Until recently, I would have said lots of Bernstein's music, but I think (especially given this year's centenary exposure) there's now a lot less sniffiness around.

Do people sniff at the 'Bailero' from the 'Chants d'Auvergne'? I love it - my spine goes all tingly every time I hear the first notes.
The same goes for Charles Trenet singing 'La Mer'.

I’m not sure who coined the ‘Guilty pleasures’ tag but it is a stupid expression. I don’t give a monkey’s stuff whether someone likes or doesn’t feel they should own up to it. Have the courage of your convictions and if you like something if others don’t they are missing out. Guilt does not come into it!

Nor can I - and there was, because I remember making a similar reply to Cloiughie's here: I'm shameless, me - gleefully admitting my love of G&S, Carmina Biriani, Bolero, Die Kunst der Fuge, William Tell Ovt and other potboiling warhorses, whilst declaring my utter contempt for R-K's Scheherazade, Ravel's orcastration of Mussorgsky's Pictures etc etc with equal delight whenever the occasion arises (like this one )

Back in the day, ABBA was a no-no. Then one day Ian Mculloch of Echo & The Bunnymen said he loved ABBA's music, and we were all able to come out of the closet. No such redemption for Boney M

I can't imagine why anyone should be feel guilty when listening to music of their personal choice. Life's too short to worry about matters such as this!
