Just finished on Radio 4. Well worth listening to. The mention of Alvin Lucier's work reminded me of a South Bank concert, back around 1969 or 1970 in which Lucier performed his Music for Solo Performer. A different performance can be found on YouTube:
There is a claim to be found on the Internet that the Purcell Room performance was by John Tilbury, but my recollection is that it was by Lucier himself, during a Sonic Arts Union of New York tour.
[[Mr. Tilbury advises me that it was indeed he who gave the performance:
"I did perform it at the Purcell Room. It was a very dramatic performance; a real (female) doctor, in doctor's garb, came on and wired me up. Even more dramatic was the performance itself. Not a sound was forthcoming. I think I was too nervous for my brain to be receptive. Lou Gare R.I.P. loved it."]]
