Never mind coffee and Cognac, I wish I had had the Ironwood Brahms Cd with me during the first half today. . Saints using WAY too much Rubato.......

Fortunately maestro Ings perked things up with much more HIP type tempos after the interval. Shows how training against Liverpools first team, as opposed to our second team, can keep your game sharp.

It has to be the recording from Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet & Mischa Maisky - recorded 2002 at Teldec Studio, Berlin on DG.

Gosh, Stan! I haven't come across that one! And I call myself an Argerich fan!

Not a bad programme either with the coupling, Schumann, Fantasiestucke for Piano Trio in a minor.

You can find it on amazon.co.uk, "Used: Very Good" (2013m release, ASIN: B00006L3JF) at a low price. However, the low cost listing is wrongly given as "Piano Quintet". If you search for "Brahms Piano Quartet Argerich" you will be taken to a much higher priced (2015 release, ASIN: B00UI9CAOM) of the same CD.

                What's the coupling?
A more starrier cast one will rarely encounter but don't let that put you off as it's an exhilarating performance!

I've only ever had Gilels with various Amadeuses, which I loved, but …

Time for something new. Argerich and friends? Hollywood? Ironwood?

Forgot I also have the Schubert Ensemble of London. It's just how I don't enjoy Brahms - boring!

As a few may know, I do have a penchant for the artistry of Martha Argerich, so I’ll always recommend her recording.
