While I am getting my organisation together:

The greatest Italian production on a hit recorded by an American and made by a Brit who died far too early. Sublime and as crisp as snow, so apt as it broke big here in an icy January.

The weird thing is that you get all of these 20-something bods saying now it evokes Ibiza - I guess she was sultry but musically it's almost as good as a cold Debussy if you can hear it:

Not that I know much about 'Pop Music', but I can think of seven:

Aha - The Sun always shines on TV
          Bjork - Army of me
          Bjork - Oh so quiet
          Eiffel65 - Blue
          Eiffel65 - Move your body
          Nicole - Ein bisschen frieden
Vanessa Paridis - Joe le Taxi

Apologies if they've already been mentioned!

Now then, zola, and thank you.

I will definitely take the John Kongos singles. That is one and not two. I am a bit muddled on the other two. Who had the British hit with Grazing in the Grass. I thought it was Friends of Distinction but I could be wrong. Astrud's The Gilr From Ipanema. I'm thinking here circa 1964 and again mid 1980s but I am not sure how far those versions went. Please let me know.

Jan Stoeckart (Dutch) - Eye Level 1972 (performed by the Simon Park Orchestra). Theme music to Van Der Valk (from the days when even lightweight tv programmes were good).

I'm not sure that I can take this as it was credited to the Simon Park Orchestra. Park was from Leicestershire. But:

                I will take this one:

Manfred Mann ought to count, really.

                  5-4-3-2-1, in fact.

Don't forget my South Africa, Brazil, South Africa threesome on page 3

                      Gipsy Kings - Bamboleo ( France ? Spain ? Was it top 40 ? )

Domenico Modugno - Volare ( much beloved of football fans, the original Italian version a hit before Dean Martin ! )
An interesting post, zola. I think Ricky Martin probably does qualify unless anyone wants to disagree. The big Gipsy Kings album only achieved 100,000 sales in the UK although it was very significant worldwide and the songs were remembered by British audiences. No Top 40 singles here so far as I am aware. Volare - much beloved by Arsenal fans in the days of Vieira - I am not familiar with the original version although know the Dean Martin version very well and doubt that it troubled the British top 40. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
