Brother Louie - Modern Talking, Germany, No 4 in 1986

Has anyone mentioned 'Seven Tears' - Goombay Dance Band, Germany, No 1 in 1982

or Shaddap You Face - Joe Dolce, Italy, No 1 in 1981?

Giorgio Moroder's 'From Here To Eternity' was great stuff in 1977.

Whoops - just discovered that Joe Dolce wasn't Italian, after all these years...

        Thank you Pilamenon.

My challenge was taken on and I was proven wrong. Beefy has found one of the loopholes with Boney M. I haven't gone there yet and there is at least one other. As there are a few posts including yours not fully addressed to date, I will now insist that there are no more than 200. Time may tell. It depends on how comprehensive any of us wants to try to be:

        A-ha - Take On Me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djV11Xbc914

        Norway - 100

        Thanks to all contributors!

"Maria Elena" is an astonishingly good pick - to be frank, I had no idea.

Los Indios Tabaros - Maria Elena - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8UHGTWbbI0

The Gilbert Becaud from 1975 if my memory serves me well is astute:

          A Little Love and Understading - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwKItmEuiSU

          ...which picks up on this:

          Edith Piaf - Milord - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUNOVC1qVjc

          and this:

          Charles Aznavour - She - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1YipLB-rQQ

Brazil, France, France, France - 69
Bert peaked at 24 in UK on 29/12/1965.

Heaven knows what this says about me, but I practically wore this 45 out when I was 5 -

              (1) Does anybody know which recording of 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' - well, the opening - featured in the charts after its use in '2001 A Space Odyssey'? I have a feeling it was conducted by Lorin Maazel.
              (2) Does Roger Whittaker (Kenyan/British) count? I think he had some chart success.
              (3) Hugo Alfven's 'Swedish Rhapsody' was a big hit in the early 1950s. Different versions - admittedly not recorded by Swedes - reached 2nd and 4th positions in the chart.
              (4) Emile Ford (St Lucia) and the Checkmates. If memory serves, the Number 1 spot was contested by 'What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes For?' and Adam Faith's 'What Do You Want?'

Lat, what's the 'loophole' with Boney M? They fit your regs.

BPO Bohm and the Blue Danube was BPO Karajan

I often wonder what proportion of the population knows what comes after the intro, and how many know it was written by Richard Strauss?

As Euro-Caribbean they fit the bill. The creator is German, the singers Caribbean. Your heading mentions Jamaica but not other Caribbean Islands such as Monserrat! However the Caribbean is considered to be in North America. Hair splittingly interesting?

                      Also from the 1950s:
                      Winifred Atwell (Trinidad)
                      Perez Prado (Mexico)

And from the 1970s - has anybody mentioned 'Baccara' (Spanish)?

I thought that John Culshaw (the earlier one) said in his memoirs that the Sprach excerpt was the Karajan/VPO?

Y Viva Espana -not sure where it was A hit but it got a lot of radio play in the UK

by a Belgian always though it was Dutch .

The original title made no sense "Eviva Espana"

                              - so it's the Karajan on the film, but on the film "soundtrack" album, it was Bohm! Lottie! Ein schwindell!!!!

The lead singer didn’t actually do the singing. The German creator actually took the vocals.
