Didn't even Ravel himself say something like it was a composition 'with no music'? I was really surprised and disappointed to see that one of my idols, Sviatoslav Richter, writes positively about it in one of his journals.

I love my Peter Katin recording of Mozart's sonata K 331 with the Alla turca rondo, which PK rattles out with such huge vim and enthusiasm. I can't help smiling at it.

Since few British composers have been mentioned apart from "the usual suspects", I'll nominate Bliss's Colour Symphony - especially the scherzo second movement, which has one of the most wonderfully fulfilling feelings of "follow-through", where every next statement seems an improvement on the last one, that I can think of.

My other work is Petrouschka - my favourite ballet music.

The 2 Brahms 2s. PC and Sym - 2 of his very best! In fact I could carry the 2 theme to other composers Beethoven’s 2nd Sym, the 2nd mvt is probably my top Beethoven movement ( followed closely by 9.3).But back to the theme of 2!
