Ever since Sean Rafferty played the 12 cellists of the BPO version of South American Getaway (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) it has been going round and round in my ear. Foolishly i made the subsequent mistake of listening to the soundtrack version and it has now replaced the 12 cellists. Is there no end to this hell.......
BTW the soundtrack version is sung (scatted really) with amazing skill and great precision in the harmony.

Notice that this is on R3 tomorrow evening and I think may refer to the original post started by Pabmusic.
Peter Curran on earworms; why we sing to ourselves, and why sometimes we can't stop it

It is! I have CD1 from this collection in the car CD changer at the moment - http://www.amazon.co.uk/This-Is-Easy.../dp/B0001EMZYO It's great listening for driving - and the South American Getaway is one of the best tracks
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Very Radio 3 . I remember (no I don't - I looked it up on Wikipedia or somewhere) that Sean Dubbayew Kea-ve-ney (spot the reference) played earworms on his Breakfast Show at one time and SMP (a 6Music listener, off-duty?) briefly took up on the idea on Brekkers.

Do not copy, R3 - delve!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Sometimes I say good things about 6 Music. How shall I put this gently? I would be absolutely horrified to think that anyone curious would be tuning in to it at breakfast time. I have never been able to stomach more than five minutes of it. It just isn't right at all.

I think Sean can be quite amusing, Lat, and it's a compromise with my lovely daughter! I mean it's only 10 mins to drown out the sounds coming from the loo.

Fair enough John but my guess is that is where the moles are coming in.

It's what's going out that's more concerning, Lat!

Yes, but people say much the same of Radio 1. Bizarrely it still gets an audience.

                            BBC R4: Monday 22 Oct 2012 11.00am Earworms

BBC6 Music DJ Shawn Keaveny explores how songs get stuck in people's heads, and meets scientists trying to understand the phenomenon.

                              songs
Hmmm... does this really and truly mean 'songs' ( lieder etc) or does the word 'songs' in this context mean a 'track' on a CD or even a movement of e.g. a Beethoven or Brahms symphony?
