    Best regards,

Ronnie Scott played the tenor break on "Lady Madonna" - that's the only famous one I know of.

Thanks for that info. Harry Klein is another of those musicians from Ronnie's generation who would have been known to older jazzers from that time. And one sometimes hears older jazz fans mention Bill Povey. As to Bill Jackman? Never heard of him tbh. Now, I expect someone, possibly a few years my senior, to say, "What? You've never heard of Bill Jackman? Dear me, tut tut".

The finale of the Szymanowski 4th Symphony (the Concertante for Piano/Orchestra) - listen and you'll soon know.....!
Keeps me awake at nights sometimes.... (not that I need much encouragement to do that....)...

Ta ta tum, tat tat tum, tum tat tat tum.. etc. Yes, it has some of the drive of Ravel's LH Concerto finale, but different rhythm.

No, not the rocking, waltz like percussion rhythm at the very start, but the theme that the piano enters with, something like -

                ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta - ta - ta - tatata - taaa

The Ravel piece I'm most reminded of by the initial perc-di-valse is ....the almost inaudible opening of.... La Valse, of course.... try it.... the similarity is the more striking given the use of bassoon in both passages - as if Szymanowski was inspired by that texture, the rhythm and theme emerging from dark depths....

For some reason, various cuts from Slayer's Reign in Blood have been stuck in my head for over a week now.

You would certainly know all about that when it happens.

Haven’t been able to shift a snippet from a Squeeze song, that I haven’t heard in ages , for a couple of days.

It is a linking passage with the lyric” Have confidence , have faith”. I think somebody is telling me sometjing. The deep ancient wisdom of SE. London I guess.

Ernestine Anderson and Sibelius were vying for control of my inner ear for a few days. Eventually, 'Someone Else is Steppin' in' (apt) gave way to the big tune in the last movt of Sibelius first symphony; fortunately both have now faded.

Having by chance heard the shipping forecast etc on Radio Four two or three nights running, invevitably Sailing By has become an earworm.

I'm mystified by the amount of affection this bland piece inspires. But there it sits, in my brain.

'Spiegel Im Spiegel' was the subject of a very moving 'Soul Music' on 4 extra on Tuesday, Draco.
Exploring the impact of Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel on listeners' lives.

Monteverdi's madrigal Vago augelletto has burrowed deep into my auditory receptors recently. Alessandrini's version is voluptuously irresistible.

I rarely hear it, mercifully, and yet it's there forever; and I can't bear it - that and the "world's worst earworm" the Archers theme!
