        Very possibly. I think that the earliest performances didn't need the instructions, as the composer - or others who had performed in the work with him - was involved in those performances. Word of mouth - together with the recording of the work from 1968 - was enough to give performers an idea of how the work should be done. The variations in the different published "Instructions" look like the result of the intervening years of different experiences. (It seems as if there are three different ways of ending a performance, for example: a sustained note/a gradual fading out/a particular number of repetitions of the last phrase and then stop - with or without cresc/dims.)

            It exists in several versions depending on the instrumentation

            The Bassoon version is good IMV
