He's marmite, isn't he?! I can't say I've heard much Beefheart that I've enjoyed or appreciated.

Not on Radio 4 but born on this day 1941, here he is miming in a distracted way to an early number, and 15 seconds whistling of a Beatles classic.

Please join the hosts in awarding him a well deserved award for progressive success

Well deserved award GT - epic performance! I think the Proms should think of doing a Beefsteak night next year.

Ivor's birthday today too, Global, I have just found. Born this day in 1923 - he'd have been 96 and still looking for truth, I like to imagine.
Scottish cult hero Ivor Cutler talks about his time in America.

Really? I think he was one of the great musical originals of the 20th century in any "genre".

I'm gobsmacked. Just checked. QOBUZ does not have Trout Mask Replica, either as originally issued or as rehashed and remastered from the original tapes. Looks like a visit to G&S is called for.

Aaarggh! They have not got it either.

Van Vliet's own role in the music of the classic Magic Band is disputed. By most accounts, he was a cult leader who bullied, terrorised and intimidated the younger people in his band, who did most of the composing; then Van Vliet took the credit. This is certainly the view of many who had interactions with him and the Magic Band, including Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

I saw John French's version of the Magic Band a couple of years ago and I though they were arguably better than the original group - which his no slur on the original group. They created the idiom: the young musicians in the latter-day Magic Band grew up in that idiom.

Variation on a Marmite theme - one either gets it or doesn't

[Aha! just come across this.] However. It looks like vinyl only. What happened to the revamped CD version that was released a few years ago?]
