I have been most enlightened by the comments on this thread, and many have led me to new considerations of music and its performance - adding to my belief that this is the most intelligent music site on the internet. Without any very lively hope of success, however, I offer this link to the Dresden concert. It seems to me that that the audience coughing adds immeasurably to our appreciation of this work which, after all, is about the awkwardness and clumsiness of our lives and its last moments. At times, it is almost as if one can hear the dying Schubert coughing as he penned his greatest work.
