The "informal protocol" that's become a habit in these matters is that once the Thread has run its course (ie when a couple of weeks have passed with no further contributions to it) I merge it with the similar/identical-themed Thread. So, whilst Forumistas are discussing the "shelf-life" of the Elgar/Payne, I'll keep it under the original title to make it easier to find the Thread. When discussion has died down - like, when we've stopped discussing whether it should be merged with the Elgar Thread or not - I'll merge it with the Elgar Thread.Numquam Satis!

Besides, I'm waiting for my source in Boosey & Hawkes to let me have details of forthcoming performances, and numbers of performances in the twenty years that the work has been in the repertoire.
Speaking of which - does anyone know why B&H published the work? Elgar is associated with Novello, Payne with (I think) Oxford - was B&H chosen as a "neutral compromise" between the "competing" companies?
And why is the score so ryddu expensive???!!!Numquam Satis!

I can see why it might be sensible to have threads in respect of a composer stored together but see no reason why all Elgar threads should be merged into one - it makes sense if for example there are several threads about say Mahler 3 but not the whole work of a composer.
This thread is already longer than the Elgar thread . Moreover, why would one want to trawl through say a long discussion on Mahler 3 if you were looking for a discussion of Das Lied von Der Erde?
Can you please leave this thread separate wherever it is stored.

Fair enough - I might tuck it into its own specially-made separate folder on the Composer Forum (similar to those for the individual Bruckner & Mahler Symphonies) when discussion falters. (I'll also delete these posts discussing where the Thread should go for future audiences.)
But the Editor's Decision will be final.
Just as soon as he makes his mind up.Numquam Satis!

Decisiveness. That's what we need in an editor. I'll respect your decision.
