But these are favourites in the sense that my interest has been quite intense at different times - I have 'lived' their music. But that also means I have much less need to play their music - I know much of it almost note-for-note, so I don't play them too often............
    Hi Pabs

I sort of know what you mean by that last sentence.
Many of my favourites I know note for note but I still NEED to hear them regularly, especially in the case of RVW,Elgar and Howells, for the sake of my mental well being.

I know what you mean also edge. It is a bit like friends - over the years and those you want to or need to keep in touch with. There are others which you are fine with if you happen to come across them again, and some you may continue to contact, others are long lost and if not seen or heard of again it does not really matter.

... and the new ones, yet to encounter.

(Not to mention those you only know over the Internet, whom you might never meet in "real life"!)

This past year I've listened (for the first time) to stacks of PORPORA, about whom previously I'd only read in the context of Handel.

            Revelation!

Concur, ER, as I expect you know from me. What about Parry?

Oh yes. I think I've enjoyed everything I've listened to (mainly symphonies). I knew the 3rd quite well, but the rest have been marvelously varied. I'm sure they'll appear regularly in my listening lists.

I should have mentioned Parry in my response to Lat earlier.

I had a lovely time listening to his Songs of Farewell yesterday.
