I much prefer Gunter Wand's Bruckner recordings in Cologne to the BPO versions. The later ones seem more about showing off the orchestra than the music. These days, I'd rather hear a committed performance from a so-called second tier band than a technically accomplished but inert one from a bigger name outfit.
