Can anyone help me identify this piece of choral music?

I know it isn't directly related to radio 3 but I have been struggling to identify this piece of choral music.

The Bikers go in search of authentic flavours of Italy, from simple, local ingredients to spicy n'duja pate and some of the best gelato to be found.

T: 15 minutes, 36 seconds (make sure you're logged in to BBC iPlayer before clicking on the link)

It seems familiar but I just can't place it. Of all the places I thought someone might know, this forum seemed like the most likely! Can anyone identify it?

    Thank you for your help.

Goodness! getting on for an hour, and no answer yet? (Welcome, doctor, btw) Sorry, it's television so I can't access it - not that I would know, anyway
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I cannot help I'm afraid as I don't recognise it. However, I see that the original music for this programme was created by Miguel d'Oliveira. Having had a brief look at his website ( migueldoliveira.com ) it does not have any audio clips from this series to compare with the piece you are being tantalised by. Of course, it may be composed by somebody else. The production company might be able to help if no-one on this forum can.

I was going to suggest that - though perhaps a spell here first as not everyone looks at The Choir board? - and vice versa here. If it keeps getting bumped, at least everyone should see it.

Thanks everyone. I'll keep searching myself but if I'm not getting anywhere I'll try posting on the Choir board. It's a full choir and organ so I reckon it's not specially made for the programme and is taken from a pre-existing recording. It doesn't sound Italian - it sounds like a British cathedral choir. It's been taxing me for several days now. I'm desperate to find out what it is!

                    Never heard it before.
Not sure I'd be confident in attributing it to a Brit Cathedral choir - unless it's one of those 'mood-maker' compilations.
Sounds a bit more American than Brit, and even possibly borders on film music territory??

I'd tried holding my mobile 'phone to the iPads speaker since I have an app that identifies music. Alas, there was too much talking for the software to get a decent hold on the music.

I spent some time trying to discover the name of the music that introduces the Proms on BBC 4. It turned out that it had been recorded especially, was not commercially available and, as far as my helpful contact at the BBC was aware, had no name. This may also be the case for the piece under discussion here.

Intrigued I listened - after decades of singing and listening to choral and operatic music, I agree - its likely to be film/games or generic "mood" music (reminiscent of the few occasions I've taken part in recording such stuff). Its all sung on "Ah" to organ accompaniment (for those who haven't listened). As its background music, I can't tell whether the organ sound is ersatz or the real thing and in any case the vocal part could be added later.

Interested to see Matera though (as I wouldn't normally be watching a cookery/travel programme).

Thanks everyone. Yes, a generic "mood music" compilation sounds possible. It's hard to tell whether it's a proper recording or several tracks edited together. I guess we aren't going to get any further in identifying it but if anyone has any other ideas, do let us know!

I'd be inclined to email the production team direct. For instance, this person is credited as series producer:

From his listed training courses, he looks like he may be at the BBC (as opposed to an external production company supplying programmes to the BBC) - if so, he'll be on the usual email formula of: francois.gandolfi@bbc.co.uk

Alternatively, a google search shows that post-production was the work of this company:

An email there might well yield the desired information, or a lead to the right source for what you need.

                              Good hunting!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
