Ray Thomas (Moody Blues) is Dead.

The musician, who played the flute solo on one of the band’s biggest hit, Nights in White Satin, had suffered from prostate cancer

Sad to hear the news - a key role in the 60s Moodies albums which part of the foundation of Prog Rock and Mike Pinder's use of the Moog. RIP Ray

Very sad to hear. One of my favourite songs Nights in White Satin, I play on keyboards.

A very nicely put together piece on R4 Last Words this afternoon acknowledging his contribution to the Moody Blues and a specific mention of 'Legend of a Mind', his flute playing and his role in their transition from a blues based band to prog.

I have friend who has a band that had actually played with Paul McCartney, among others. I was just talking with him about Legend Of A Mind. I was wondering if the Moodys used a mellotron or a Moog Synthesizer to achieve those spacey effects. He thought it was a Moog

I'm fairly sure it was a melletron, rfg. Check out www.mikepinder.com - this shows Mike Pinder's role in the development of instrument.

Thanks, cloughie. That was interesting. I didn’t realize that the Moodys May have invented, let alone utilized, the mellotron.

The mellotron was invented in Birmingham England: the same town that the MBs hailed from:
