I only really know the 'superstar' version under Karajan from 1969.

This recording caused some consternation at EMI, apparently: it was the recording that brought von K back to the company, after he'd been seduced away by the blandishments of DG. Yet Peter Alward was dismayed by the sound quality, which he considred inferior to EMI"s previous stereo recording under Sargent.

I enjoy the work: as someone said above, it's very convivial, even if it ultimately lacks profundity.

Bryn was very lucky in his birthday present I reckon . I knew if the recording for years but finally bought a very cheap copy off Amazon coupled as it has often been with the Fricsay/Schneiderhan/Starker Brahms Double .

What a sensational performance - one hears all manner of things in the orchestral part that tend to pass one by and what wonderful chamber music like playing from the trio and Fournier's playing is jaw-dropping. The Brahms is pretty terrific too and once again Fricsay brings out all manner of interest in the orchestra .

Definitely a top class recording of the Triple Concerto and one I suspect I will return to a lot .

People shouldn't ignore the Harnoncourt recording(artists escape me?)

Just searched this thread and was shocked to find nobody had mentioned the Trio Zingara/ECO/Edward Heath recording. Heath acquits himself well, and the Trio Zingara are in fine metal indeed.
