My very best wishes to Stanfordian. So sorry to hear that you are ill and I hope your treatment is helpful. I don't have the coping mechanisms for speaking about this illness, let alone anticipating it or dealing with it. There is definitely the feeling now that we live in an unsheltered world - and that frightens me. I was also sorry to hear about the loss of Dmitri. The absence of words reveals a lack of knowledge on my part. When I looked at his discography, it was "Where are You, My Brothers?", the 2003 CD of Russian-language songs from World War II that stood out. I am keen that we remember that we would not have won the war without the Russians, whatever we think about the Soviets subsequently or indeed Russia now.

    RIP Dmitri Hvorostovsky

Been listening to his recording of Eugene Onegin with Bychkov this evening . How wonderfully he sang and inhabited that role . A terrible loss to music.

There are any number of "In Memoriam" tributes that have been uploaded to You Tube within the last few hours. What an excellent archive this is of great classical artists who are no longer with us ...

I am really shocked by this news, I just can't believe it.

Sorry to hear what you are going through, Stanfordian, but be strong. I had six months of very powerful and debilitating chemotherapy treatment in 2014 for lymphoma, but three years later I am now back to being fit and well again. Wishing you all the best.

A very sad day yesterday to hear of this great singer's death. A sad event on St Cecilia's Day.

What a pair of singers we discovered when Hvorostovsky and Terfel competed. So sad that H was taken so young.

Stan all the very best for your treatment and recovery.
