Apologies if this has already been posted, but the musicologist Donald Mitchell died 29th September 2017. I do not remember seeing it mentioned. He was best-known for his work on the life, letters and music of Benjamin Britten.

I had missed this sad news, if it had been posted here. In addition to his studies of Britten, his writings on Mahler were very important in my initial studies of the composer - and his work with Keller producing Music Survey was very important, too (more so, IMO, than The Language of Modern Music, which I don't think has worn so well). But such a full life, devoted to the Music he believed most in; he made valuable contributions to cultural life in post-war Britain.

A real heart- pang on hearing this sad news. Donald Mitchell always a part of the
Aldeburgh scenario to me during the years of Britten's prolongation as a 'journeying boy'. RIP
