Yes, there's lots of celebration. But unfortunately it's heavily outweighed by all the negativity. I know I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised as to how blind people are to it.

And too much focus on superannuated recordings and performers and scant interest for composers who haven't been dead for 100 plus years.

String quartets, sonata form, symphony orchestras, symphonies as de rigueur. Throw in some electronics, impro, non-symphonic writing and we switch off.

Nothing wrong in holding up a mirror to ourselves, is there?

Yes, it is noticeable but:

a) there could be other reasons for that, other than their perception of 'negativity'; and

b) it's not unusual for people to join forums and seldom contribute, if at all. I would say in fact that new joiners who go on to join in and become regular posters are the exception rather than the rule on online forums.

I consider myself a happy and basically positive person ...but I'd still be happy never to hear anything by Steve Reich again (except possibly for the piece with the railway station announcements )

I don't think he wrote a piece with "railway station annoucements".
He did write a string quartet with recordings relating to trains if that is what you mean ?

This forum is overwhelmingly one that is concerned with the joy that music gives us - criticism directed at what reduces that pleasure whether because we do not like the music , inadequate performance or denying us the opportunity to hear it in full on the radio .

Ah, yes; Different Trains - i.e. those that actually run on time and are unaffected by rosin on the line.
