    Barbican season 2017-2018

Anybody got any must see concerts for this season?

I'm sure there is lots good to enjoy, but the Barbican website has exhausted my patience, and it has to be something a bit special to get me over there anyway.

Does anybody know if there is a paper listing available these days ?

Anyway, one I fancy is the JEG Schumann/Berlioz concert on March 11, Second Symphony and Nuits D'Ete. Silly day for a concert , Sunday, but so it goes.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I'm really looking forward to the RSNO's opening concert in October which features Nicola Benedetti in Elgar's Violin Concerto coupled with Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Two of my all time favourite works which seem odd bed fellows!

I've picked out three of the Rattle/LSO concerts and already have my tickets for the three Stravinsky ballets, Firebird, Petrushka and the Rite, on Sept 21 plus two next April featuring Mahler 9 and Mahler 10. Not at home at the moment so exact dates not to hand.

There are a couple of LSO/Haitink concerts in October but alas, I've no holidays left at work.

Again, details not to hand, but I thought the season outside the LSO concerts was pretty dull.

And hey bungo, a nice catalogue arrived in the post today.

Only goes up to January, mind, but good news anyway.

Not that the opinion of a Yank nowhere near London counts for much, but just at a glance, if I had loads of time and $$ (OK, ££), and if I were over there, I'd check out Barbican concerts like these:

Anderson’s chamber works here span 21 years of his compositional life, and reveal his characteristically acute ear for texture on a small scale.

Julian Anderson in orchestral mode, exploring space, time and texture in a way that makes him one of the most distinctive composers writing today.

The doyenne of French composers, Betsy Jolas, brings one of her latest works to London, presented alongside music by Lili Boulanger and Gustav Mahler.

Two symphonies written 50 years apart, and perfectly complementary, bookend two great French works for piano and orchestra played by a master.

Two of Sibelius’s most rewarding symphonies bookend the UK premiere of Anders Hillborg’s Violin Concerto No. 2 played by Lisa Batiashvili.

A rich survey of Salonen’s music with orchestra including the thrilling Wing on Wing inspired by the striking architecture of LA’s Disney Hall.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/e9bzc8 (not for the first half, but rather the 2nd half)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/e4mrzc (mainly for the 1st half)

The two BBC SO / Oramo concerts with Sibelius are for admittedly selfish reasons, as 3 & 6 are the two Sibelius symphonies that I've never heard live.

                Yes.
you ? TBF, you can't get enough Sibelius live. At least that is what the promoters seem to think !! anyway, I'm up for it.

Great, hope you can make it.
And lets hope they get the programme right this time. Last time we went to hear some Sibelius they advertised several works incorrectly......
