It was reported on Breakfast this morning that the Vienna Phil's principal clarinettist, Ernst Ottensamer, died yesterday aged 61. As well as his main role, he was also familiar as one of ther Clarinotts, a trio he formed with his sons Daniel (also of the Vienna Phil) and Andreas (Prtincipal clarinettist in the Berlin Phil) and has made a number of recordings as a soloist - the Spohr and Weber concerti on Naxos for example.
Our condlences go to his family and colleagues. RIP Ernst - you have given a lot of pleasure in your life cut off in its prime.
