any recommendation for evocative 1890-1920s music?

Hi

Nothing important here, just that I'm on a reading spree of history books relating to period 1890-1920, that is, the outro of Victorian Britain, Edwardian period and WW1 ... just before the jazz age and was looking for recommendations for music that might evoke that period. Any titles that come to mind?

I guess I'm looking for something of a more popular nature, as it's easy enough to trace canonical classical pieces from the period.

As an example, plundering the track list for documentaries is always a good idea for this sort of evocative music. Take The First World War" documentary (The one based on Hew Strachan's book) soundtrack ... some good stuff on that.

Richard Attenborough's film 'Chaplin' paints a very vivid picture of that period in all its squalor and destitution. A film I'm very fond of with an outstanding performance by Robert Downey, jnr.
