        Talking about being 'gushing' there are few more so than Sir Simon Rattle when he gets going. It's not at all a gender 'thing', imo.

        Still I did find Ms Gražinytė-Tyla's enthusiastic description of Mahler 1 being like 'the excitement of the wedding-night being followed by the cold reality of the morning after' (or words to that effect) somewhat free-spirited.

        I have to confess I had never thought of it quite like that before ...
