Very sad news indeed about a musical pioneer. I remember reading an old book in my teenage years which talked about young, up and coming players and there was a photo of a very young Nona Liddell.
This will come with great sadness to someone I know who was in the London Sinfonietta alongside her: the last thing that would have occurred to me was her mixed race heritage, mentioned in the Guardian obit.
Very sad to hear this - she was so important a part of my Musical education (those Sinfonietta Schönberg and Weill records, the concerts) in the '70s and early '80s.
RIP, and many, many thanks

I was just discussing with a colleague the LS season at St John's Smith Square in 1979, which probably had a more profound and lasting effect on me than any other concert series I've attended. That was a golden age for the ensemble to be sure, with such exceptional players as Nona Liddell, of course there are still some very good players in the LS but the feeling of doing something new and exciting really isn't there any more.
